Go Visit Inishowen is a community based tourism formed for the purpose of promoting the whole of the Inishowen Peninsula in partnership with all our tourism, business, statutory and community stakeholders. Our organisation is funded through the Pobal Community Services Programme.
This post is funded by the Community Services Programme, therefore subject to criteria preference is applied to applicants that are in receipt of a payment from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection.
Job Summary
Go Visit Inishowen is looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to support the growth of economic, social and community contribution of tourism to the Inishowen Peninsula. The Trade Liaison & Events Co-ordinator will be ambitious, creative and a self-driven individual with excellent communication and engagement skills. The Go Visit Inishowen Team will work to deliver on the Go Visit Inishowen Community Tourism Plan 2023-2027 and the Failte Ireland Inishowen Peninsula Destination and Experience Development Plan. The team will harness key opportunities; delivering incremental tourism revenue for Go VisitInishowen; and support the attraction and expansion of visitor numbers thus supporting employment prospects in the peninsula as well as enhancing opportunities for the sustainability, advancement and wellbeing. The Trade Liaison & Events Co-ordinator should be self-motivated, achieve organisational goals and use time and effort effectively and efficiently. The officer will be adept at selling Go Visit Inishowen as a strong product/service. The officer will have comprehensive knowledge of the tourism sector in the peninsula as well as proficient in responding to visitor/trade needs where appropriate.
The Trade Liaison & Events Co-ordinator is responsible for (non-exhaustive)
- Building and maintaining excellent relationships with colleagues and all tourism trade and other tourism entities and community entities/organisations within Inishowen.
- Development of a yearly calendar of events which generate revenue for Go Visit Inishowen.
- Produce the annual Go Visit Inishowen Tourist brochure
- Engage and involve the tourism trade in trade events, shows and participating in annual Tourism brochure/online promotions.
- Provide excellent customer service to trade and visitors.
- Identification of other revenue and funding opportunities for Go Visit Inishowen.
- Building exceptional knowledge on all tourism provisions within Inishowen and ability to communicate positively when selling Inishowen to visitors.
- Managing relationships with other tourism entities and others beyond Inishowen.
The Trade Liaison & Events Coordinator will play a key role in providing a high-quality and engaging experience for visitors as well as liaising with local tourism provisions, businesses, community groups, the public and public agencies of the tourism industry. In collaboration with all staff, planning, developing and delivering promotional and other revenue generating events for Go Visit Inishowen. In partnership with the tourism sector and the local community, planning, promoting and delivering events that are inclusive of the whole community of Inishowen. The officer will contribute to the building of Inishowen as a sustainable and desirable destination. The Trade Liaison & Events coordinator should be self-motivated, achieve organisational goals and use time and effort effectively and efficiently. The officer will be adept at selling Go Visit Inishowen as a strong product/service. The officer will have comprehensive knowledge of the tourism sector in the peninsula as well as proficient in responding to visitor needs where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities: non-exhaustive
- Develop an In-depth knowledge of the Explore Inishowen Community Tourism Plan 2023-2027,the Failte Ireland Inishowen Peninsula Destination and Experience Development Plan and any other tourism related publication.
- Identify key partners including Failte Ireland, Go Visit Donegal, Visit Derry, etc. and manage relationships in a positive and mutually beneficial manner.
- Produce our annual Go Visit Inishowen visitor publication/online for trade entries and also on website
- Manage the production and distribution of other marketing and promotional literature for local activities and calendar of events and any other publications.
- Manage trade subscriptions, and ensure they are included in annual publication
- Demonstrate excellent collegial relationships within the office provide exceptional customer service, offering positive initial impression of the organisation and the peninsula, face-to-face, over the phone, and via email to all customers/ clients of Go Visit Inishowen.
- Ensure visitors, the tourism trade, statutory and community organisations have a high-quality and engaging experience with Go Visit Inishowen.
- Display strong written and verbal communication skills, including customer relations skills in dealing with visitors, volunteers, staff, the community and the tourism sector.
- Research and become familiar with existing tourism attractions and provisions sectors (tour operators, travel agents, accommodation-focused operators, group organisers, coach operators, on-line operators, existing tourism attractions in the community and specific tourism sectors within the Peninsula) liaise with the same.
- Research local history and local people’s views in order to examine the potential for new tourist attractions in the community.
- Compile footfall into the Go Visit Inishowen Tourist Office (Visitor Statistics) and analyse the same.
- Prepare accurate, valid and complete monthly reports to the Programme Manager and Board, by using the right methods/tools on a monthly basis.
- Attend and support at exhibitions, conferences, holiday shows, special events, seasonal events and festivals both nationally and overseas to promote the area where required.
- Identify new members/ clients/customers and engage potential new trade members and community groups.
- Develop partnerships with local & national agencies and with community groups within the tourism & hospitality industry.
- Work in collaboration with Failte Ireland to assist in the identification of local tourism business/community groups for their marketing, product development & IT needs and report findings to enhance the service to prospective clients and potential visitors.
- Collect, manage and distribute and display tourism promotional material and saleable goods.
- When required, act as Visitor Services Officer at front desk
- Undertake further training to further enhance skills to be organised by the programme manager.
- Assist with identifying funding opportunities for Go Visit Inishowen and assist in the application process.
- Support other staff when needed which may involve unsociable hours.
- Hours generally Monday – Friday, but during main tourist season, May-Sep rotering with Visitor Servicing Staff to work Saturdays, and occasional evening work
- Such other duties as the company may from time to time reasonably require.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Essential Criteria-
A strong team player who gets on very well with people, is highly motivated with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

- Possess excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to forge strong working relationships with all staff, the Board, the tourism sector, business partners, the local community and other tourism organisations.
- Customer-focused with experience of dealing with varying industry groups
- High level IT skills, competent in the use of MS office software, and Canva or equivalent design package.
- Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
- Excellent project management and organisational skills.
- Ability to collate a wide range of information and to extract relevant data with strong reporting skills.
- Excellent all round communication skills.
- Willing to undertake further training and education to further enhance skills

Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in a similar tourism or business role.
- Have or working towards a third Level qualification in a Tourism/Customer focused area currently or accreditations similar to any of the above.
- Good knowledge of Inishowen and/or the North West as a Tourism destination.
- Good experience and understanding of the tourism customer and market dynamics and requirements.
An additional advantage, although not essential, would be the ability to utilise a foreign language such as German, French or Spanish.

DIGITAL MARKETING
SHOWCASING TRADE MEMBERS ONLINE CONSTANTLY
- Engaging with trade members online. Get their attention by calling them out and tagging them in every associated posts
- Creating original online posts to share on social media channels
- Ensure that each trade member gets an individual post on our platforms as per subscription, and this is recorded.
- Directing traffic to their website via GVI
- Sharing their posts and reels on our story when they copy us in
- Using hashtags within every post to engage larger audiences
- Updating GVI website to include all member listings and keeping their information current. Ensure that any events they have on also get listed.
- Creating blogs which include our subscribers and captivate an audience with informative information about the area for travellers
SHOWCASING THE PENINSULA’S BEAUTY SPOTS
- Using social media to show off our beauty spots to a worldwide audience and entice them to visit
- Create video reels of the surrounding area that capture an online audience
- Creating blogs about beaches, walks, hikes, etc
- Ensure the above are also displayed on our website
SHOWCASING WHAT’S ON
- Researching and updating the What’s On section of the website for Inishowen events and sharing the interesting events online on our social channels
- Create a blog for upcoming events – this can be seasonal covering summer events, winter events, etc
- Ensure our trade members are tagged in any events we are advertising by tagging them
GENERAL
- Collect Subscriptions (Joint team effort)
- Liaise with Trade Liaison on event creations that will benefit trade as well as generate money for GVI
- Assist with Visitor Guide Production and update corresponding entries on website
- General updating of Go Visit Website when required
- Find out what event the trade would benefit from? Research – build and create an event that’s relevant. i.e digital marketing course that would assist trade members improve online themselves, etc.
- Excellent customer care
- Engage with Failte Ireland, Do Visit Donegal, Visit Derry, DEDP, etc to forge relationships and ensure best exposure of all the organisations trade.
- Visitor Services when required
- Hours generally Monday – Friday, but during main tourist season, May-Sep rotering with Visitor Servicing Staff to work Saturdays, and occasional evening work
KEEPING METRICS OF DIGITAL MARKETING + EVENTS PERFORMANCE
This is about keeping track of the employee’s growth of GVI online platforms
- Continually correlate Social Media Followers on a regular basis and working with the Manager, set yearly targets for growth.
- Jetpack is installed on the website. This keeps stats of daily, weekly, monthly yearly visitor numbers to the website. It shows which pages are most popular and who our referrers are. It gives an insight into what works to bring traffic to the site.
- Using the various Social Media and Google analytic tools to see which posts capture the biggest audiences and continue to grow.
- Ensure our members are being directed traffic via GVI website – this means linking their webpage to any social media posts from the GVI website links
- Create charts for each of the above in order to record actual metrics which can be reviewed weekly/bi-weekly/monthly with an aim for constant improvement in all areas.
TRADE LIAISON
